Arash Azizi

Historian and Writer; Contributing Writer, The Atlantic

Arash Azizi is a writer and historian with a focus on Iran and the Middle East. A contributing writer at the Atlantic, he writes about politics, history and cinema. Previously, Azizi was a senior lecturer of political science and history at Clemson University. He has co-hosted a news show for Iranian audiences, written and produced movies, was a journalist at the BBC and in Canada and Iran, worked as an interpreter and translator, and taught at New York University, where he earned his PhD in history and Middle Eastern studies. Azizi has written for numerous publications and authored “What Iranians Want: Women, Life, Freedom” and “Shadow Commander: Soleimani, the US and Iran’s Global Ambitions.” He’s a board member of the Nonviolent Initiative for Democracy.
