Pamela Karlan is the Kenneth and Harle Montgomery Professor of Public Interest Law and a founder and co-director of the Supreme Court Litigation Clinic at Stanford Law School. She was previously an assistant counsel at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and deputy assistant attorney general in the US Justice Department Civil Rights Division. Karlan, whose scholarship focuses on constitutional litigation, has argued nine cases before the Supreme Court. Her public service includes clerking for Supreme Court Justice Harry Blackmun and serving on California’s Fair Political Practices Commission. She co-authored three casebooks and a monograph, Keeping Faith with the Constitution. Karlan was named to the 2016 Politico 50, a group of “thinkers, doers, and visionaries transforming American politics.”
