Programming
Aspen Ideas: Climate covers a wide range of timely and critical topic areas through panels, presentations, lectures, debates, deep dives, and interviews.
Our programming showcases a variety of solutions to our climate challenge through formats including Main Stage Events, Breakout Sessions, Roundtable Discussions, Excursions, Private Roundtables, and the Arts, focused on mitigating and adapting to climate change. Topics will include solutions from flooding and sea level rise to new renewable energy technologies and from food and agriculture impacts of climate change to the future of mobility.
Why are we doing this?
Earth’s climate is changing, and it is changing now. As the global temperature rises, it brings sea level rise, fire, drought, flooding, extreme weather events, and heatwaves, having subtle and severe long term effects on species of all kinds. What is our path forward? We take the view that to mitigate the worst effects of climate change and adapt our society to these unsettling conditions, we need to develop and deploy climate solutions on a planetary scale, with speed and efficiency, or we risk increasingly destructive outcomes. Importantly, we need the public to embrace ideas.
The problem is solvable
There are a range of potential solutions, including new policies, new and improved technologies, and redesigned market and financial instruments. While each community, company, and country will choose their own path, a comprehensive approach requires us to rethink mobility and architecture, shift priorities in investment and job creation, and change how we produce and consume energy and food. It will also require collaboration and consideration of diverse perspectives for meaningful change to occur.
The problem is urgent, but it is solvable if everyone — individuals, communities, national governments, NGOs, and the private sector — acts now.
Enter Aspen Ideas: Climate, where a number of the world’s most ambitious climate problem solvers from across the U.S. and beyond will participate in a major public event. Participants will be more prepared to engage this formidable challenge with a deeper appreciation for what is necessary — and possible.
