Executive Director, Socrates Program, and Founding Director, Project on Belonging, Aspen Institute; Founder, Expectant Advisory

Cordell Carter is executive director of the Aspen Institute’s Socrates Program and founding director of its Project on Belonging. He founded and leads the Festival of the Diaspora and Expectant Advisory, a human-capital advisory firm. Previously, Carter held leadership roles with the TechTown Foundation, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Public Schools, Business Roundtable, National Alliance for Public Charter Schools and IBM. A facilitator and speaker on topics including belonging and inclusion, he serves on the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships and advises SkillStorm on creating technology-training academies in underserved communities. Carter is a limited partner with the Fvlcrum Fund and Mendoza Ventures and board director for Concordia, Orbit Capital and others. His honors include being named a 2023 Minority Executive Making Moves by Minority Business Review and a 2016 Champion of Change for Computer Science Education.
