Johnny Matheny
Pioneer, Advanced Arm Prosthetics
Johnny Matheny is a pioneer in upper-extremity prosthetics and the world’s first robotic man. Having lost his arm to cancer in 2008, he has had several groundbreaking surgical procedures, including targeted muscle reinnervation and osteointegration, which allows control of his Johns Hopkins Modular Prosthetic Limb wirelessly with intuitive thought as a seamless natural extension of his missing arm. Matheny has the single most experience with the world’s most advanced limb systems and continues to be a champion for the advancement of prosthetic research. He has never seen his amputation as a disability, but rather an opportunity to help others with upper-extremity loss.
