Marta Segura

Chief Heat Officer and Director, Climate Emergency Mobilization, City of Los Angeles

Marta Segura is the City of Los Angeles's first Chief Heat Officer and Director of the Office of Climate Emergency Mobilization. In these roles, Segura has advocated that achieving Equity, Health, and Climate goals are central to reshaping the City's approach to creating heat and climate resilient, equitable communities. To that end, she launched the Heat Relief 4 LA campaign, the City's first Heat Action Framework, and the Cool Spots LA app as tools and strategies, and through collaborative efforts she advocates for their alignment with various City of LA climate and sustainability city plans, one example is that our Local Hazard Mitigation Plan now include Heat and Climate Hazards for the first time. She oversees a staff of 6 within the Board of Public Works and is a Senior Advisor to Deputy Mayor Nancy Sutley who oversees the Mayor’s Office of Energy and Sustainability and a member of the Mayor’s Climate Cabinet. Segura’s career includes having been a Program Officer for The California Endowment, a Los Angeles City planning commissioner, a senior policy advisor to then Mayor Garcetti, and the District Director for Council District 13 and over 20 years as an Environmental Justice leader. Her passion for co-creating livable, healthy, resilient communities despite the complex challenges of navigating multiple climate and human rights crises is a mission quest for Segura.
