Matt Helmer
Managing Director, Aspen Institute Economic Opportunities Program
Matt Helmer is managing director of the Economic Opportunities Program at the Aspen Institute. He works to advance job quality, economic security and race and gender equity for workers with low and moderate incomes. Previously, Helmer worked for the Seattle Housing Authority and was a senior policy analyst at the Seattle Jobs Initiative. From 2009 to 2014, he worked for the Aspen Institute’s Workforce Strategies Initiative. Earlier in his career, Helmer worked for a Seattle nonprofit supporting immigrants and refugees, was a senior English language fellow for the U.S. State Department in Syria, and volunteered with the Peace Corps in Tonga. The author of research publications, issue briefs, case studies and book chapters, his writing has appeared in The Hill and Fast Company.
