Suzanne Nossel is CEO of PEN America, a human rights and free-expression organization. Prior to this, she was chief operating officer of Human Rights Watch and then executive director of Amnesty International USA. Previously, Nossel was deputy assistant secretary of state for international organizations in the Obama administration. She was also vice president for strategy and operations for The Wall Street Journal and vice president of U.S. business development for Bertelsmann. During the Clinton Administration, Nossel was deputy to the U.S. ambassador for U.N. management and reform. A columnist for Foreign Policy, her commentary has also appeared in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Foreign Affairs and Dissent, among others. Nossel is the author of “Dare to Speak: Defending Free Speech for All.”
