Tom Insel, a psychiatrist and neuroscientist, is chair and co-founder of Vanna Health and a national leader in mental health research, policy, and technology. Insel was director of the National Institute of Mental Health from 2002 to 2015, then led the Mental Health Team at Verily, co-founded Mindstrong Health, and served as special advisor to California Governor Gavin Newsom. In 2020, he co-founded Humanest Care and in 2022 joined Vanna Health. He served on the board of the Steinberg Institute, is currently on the board of Fountain House, and advises several mental health start-ups and the New York Future of Healthcare Commission. He authored “Healing: Our Path from Mental Illness to Mental Health.” A member of the National Academy of Medicine, Insel has received numerous national and international awards and honorary degrees.
