Vijay Vaitheeswaran is the global energy and climate innovation editor of The Economist. Prior to this, he was the publication’s U.S. business editor from 2017 to 2021. Previously, Vaitheeswaran was The Economist’s China business editor and opened its Shanghai bureau in 2012. Earlier in his career, Vaitheeswaran opened its first bureau in Latin America and was Mexico City bureau chief. He is the author of three books, including “Need, Speed and Greed.” A public speaker, Vaitheeswaran has addressed the US National Governors’ Association, U.N. General Assembly, and American Association for the Advancement of Science. A sustainability and innovation adviser to the World Economic Forum, he is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations and Economic Club of New York.
