Alynda Segarra
Singer-Songwriter; Founder, Hurray for the Riff Raff
Alynda Segarra is a singer-songwriter and founder of the band, Hurray for the Riff Raff. The band has recorded nine studio albums, most recently “The Past Is Still Alive,” released in February 2024, and 2022’s “Life on Earth,” its debut on the Nonesuch label. Segarra self-released the band’s first studio album, “It Don’t Mean I Don’t Love You,” in 2008. Before that, they played washboard with the hobo band Dead Man Street Orchestra in New Orleans, where they found their spiritual, emotional, and physical home after crisscrossing the country from California by hopping trains. Segarra, born in the Bronx of Puerto Rican heritage, was a part of New York’s punk haunts and queer spaces before leaving home at age 17.
