Andrew Kamau is managing director of international programs at the Center on Global Energy Policy’s Energy Opportunity Lab, leading its projects outside of the United States. Previously, he was Kenya’s principal secretary for petroleum and mining, where he was responsible for the adoption of liquid petroleum gas as a primary cooking fuel, transporting petroleum products by rail and lake barges rather than roads, and leveraging minerals critical for the energy transition. Prior to this, Kamau helped the governments of Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, and Ghana to close complex energy-trading transactions. His recognition includes being awarded Kenya’s Order Chief of the Burning Spear, First Class and named Africa Oil and Gas Deal Maker of the Year by Global Pacific Partners.
