Aparna Hegde is a urogynecologist and founder of Armman, a nonprofit leveraging low-cost mobile technology and training health workers to improve women and children’s health in India. She’s an associate professor of urogynecology and heads that department at Grant Medical College’s Cama Hospital in Mumbai. A researcher with over 75 publications or abstracts, Hegde is an NIH grantee and has done pioneering work in 2D/3D ultrasound pelvic-floor imaging. She is an editorial board member of the International Urogynecology Journal and chairs the Foundation for International Urogynecological Assistance. A 2021 Ashoka Fellow, Hegde received NITI Aayog’s Women Transforming India Award, the MIT Elevate Award, and was named one of Fortune’s World’s 50 Greatest Leaders in 2021, among other honors.
