Arif Sarwat is a professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and founding director of the Energy, Power and Sustainability Research Group at Florida International University. There, he is also founding director of the FPL-FIU Solar Research Center, which includes a 1.4-megawatt photovoltaic power plant and an AI-based renewable microgrid with a battery-energy storage system on the FIU engineering campus. Sarwat’s research interests include smart grids, electric vehicles, high-penetration renewable systems, storage and battery-management systems, grid resiliency, large-scale data analysis, artificial intelligence, advanced metering infrastructure, smart city infrastructure, and cybersecurity. He previously worked for Siemens for over nine years. A senior IEEE member, he is the recipient of the 2016 NSF Career Award and multiple federal and industry awards.
