Ava DuVernay
Film Director, Producer, and Screenwriter
Ava DuVernay is a writer, director, producer, and film distributor. She directed the Oscar-winning historical drama Selma, criminal-justice documentary 13th, and A Wrinkle in Time. She’s currently in production on a project based on the Central Park Five while overseeing production of her TV series “Queen Sugar.” DuVernay’s independent film collective Array was named one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies. An Emmy, BAFTA, and Peabody award winner, she won the 2012 Sundance Film Festival’s Best Director Prize for Middle of Nowhere and in 2017 was named one of Fortune’s 50 Greatest Culture Leaders and to the TIME 100. DuVernay sits on the boards of Sundance Institute and Film Independent.
