Benoit Schillings is a distinguished software engineer at X, where he oversees early-stage projects and teams from concept to prototype. Current areas of investigation include exploring ways to produce food more sustainably, investigating clean and abundant energy alternatives, and imagining a world with less pain. Schillings has worked in Silicon Valley for 30 years, in positions ranging from individual contributor to CTO. He’s worked at Yahoo, at Facebook, and for Norwegian software company TrollTech. As a distinguished engineer and CTO at OpenWave, he led a team that developed version 7 of the Openwave Phone Suite mobile phone applications. Schillings was a lead developer behind the Be Operating System (BeOS), first launched in 1995.
