Caoilfhionn Gallagher is an international human rights lawyer with Doughty Street Chambers. An expert in accountability for crimes against journalists, she leads the international legal teams for the family of Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, Hong Kong publisher and pro-democracy activist Jimmy Lai, and BBC Persian and Iran International journalists, among others. Gallagher has testified before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights on gender-based violence and risks to female journalists and on journalists’ safety to parliamentary inquiries in the U.K., Ireland and Council of Europe. She is Ireland’s special reporter on child protection, an adjunct professor at University College Dublin, Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission member and Committee to Protect Journalists board member. Gallagher’s recognition includes the president of Ireland’s Distinguished Service Award.
