Cara Fitzpatrick is an editor at Chalkbeat, a nonprofit news organization covering education. Prior to this, she was a New Arizona fellow at New America in 2019 and a Spencer fellow at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism in 2018. Previously, Fitzpatrick covered education at newspapers in Florida. Fitzpatrick won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Local Reporting for her Tampa Bay Times series about school segregation. The series also was honored with a Polk award and the Worth Bingham for Investigative Journalism, among others. Fitzpatrick is the author of “The Death of Public School: How Conservatives Won the War Over Education in America.”
