Chokwe Antar Lumumba is the mayor of Jackson, Mississippi. Under his leadership, the city has bolstered community oversight of the police, including establishing Mississippi’s first policy of releasing the names of officers involved in shootings. He has also won a nearly $90 million settlement with Siemens, recouping city losses related to water infrastructure, billing, and metering issues, and begun the largest infrastructure improvement initiative in recent history. Lumumba’s honors include the National Black Caucus of State Legislators 2017 Nation Builder Award, the Frederick Douglass 200 Award in politics, and recognition as one of Mississippi’s Top 50 Most Influential Leaders. He is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association and the Magnolia Bar Association.
