Chris Field is the Perry L. McCarty Director of the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment and the Melvin and Joan Lane Professor for Interdisciplinary Environmental Studies at Stanford University. His research focuses on climate change solutions that improve lives now, decrease future warming, and support vibrant economies. Recent projects emphasize decreasing risks from coastal flooding and wildfires. Previously, Field was founding director of the Carnegie Institution’s Department of Global Ecology from 2002 to 2016 and co-chair of Working Group Two of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change from 2008 to 2015. His honors include election to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and American Philosophical Society, as well as the Heinz Award and Max Planck Research Award.
