Christian McBride
Bassist; Host, “Jazz Night in America”, NPR
Christian McBride is a bassist and host of NPR’s “Jazz Night in America”, showcasing outstanding live jazz from across the country. He also hosts and produces “The Lowdown: Conversations With Christian” on SiriusXM satellite radio. McBride is artistic advisor for jazz programming at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and works with Jazz House Kids, which educates children through jazz, bringing internationally renowned jazz performers to teach alongside professional staff. He formed his long-running Christian McBride Band in 2000. In 2009, he created the Inside Straight quintet and later the Christian McBride Big Band, whose 2012 release, “The Good Feeling”, won the GRAMMY for Best Large Ensemble Jazz Album. McBride has been artistic director of the Jazz Aspen Snowmass Summer Sessions, co-director of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem, and second creative chair for jazz of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association.
