Christopher Bedford is the Helen and Charles Schwab Director of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, since 2022. Previously, he was the Dorothy Wagner Wallis Director of The Baltimore Museum of Art, during which time he was appointed commissioner of the U.S. pavilion for the 2017 Venice Biennale. Prior to that, Bedford was director of the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University, chief curator and curator of exhibitions at Ohio State University Wexner Center for the Arts, assistant curator and curatorial assistant in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Department of Contemporary Art, and consulting curator in the J. Paul Getty Museum’s Department of Sculpture and Decorative Arts. Also an author, he contributes to publications including Art in America, Artforum, and Frieze.
