Corey Brooks is founder and pastor of New Beginnings Church, a nondenominational congregation on Chicago’s South Side, and a leader in addressing issues of inner-city communities, particularly gun violence. He’s known as the“Rooftop Pastor” for living on an abandoned motel roof to bring awareness to violence and raise funds to build a community center. His Project H.O.O.D. seeks to end violence and build communities. Brooks’s honors include Best Community Leader at the 2012 Steve Harvey Ford Neighborhood Awards, Chicago Defender’s 2012 Newsmaker of the Year, and Chicago Urban League’s Top Innovator Award. He has ministered at the International Pastors and Leaders Conference and appeared on the Trinity Broadcasting Network.
