Craig Newmark is a Web entrepreneur and philanthropist. He founded the online classified ads service craigslist in 1995. In 2016, he created Craig Newmark Philanthropies to advance people and grassroots organizations in areas that include trustworthy journalism, voter protection, women in technology, and veterans and military families. Previously channeled through Craig Connects, which he started in 2011, all of Newmark’s philanthropic work is aimed at helping strengthen American democracy by supporting the values that the country aspires to: fairness, opportunity, and respect.
