David Babson is executive vice president for climate and energy at XPRIZE, whose mission is to inspire and empower humanity to achieve breakthroughs that accelerate an abundant and equitable future. Previously, he held numerous roles developing and leading advanced climate and energy research programs, advocating for sustainability policies and promoting solutions to climate and energy challenges. Babson was most recently executive director of MIT’s Climate Grand Challenges Initiative. Before that, he was a program director at the U.S. Energy Department’s ARPA-E energy technology research agency, senior advisor in the USDA Office of the Chief Scientist, technology manager at the U.S. Energy Department, senior fuels engineer at the Union of Concerned Scientists, and AAAS science and technology policy fellow at the EPA.
