David Hume is head of climate programs at Flexport, leading the platform for global logistics’ climate program to drive down greenhouse gas emissions of freight transportation. He is also a lieutenant commander in the US Navy Reserves and founder and chief editor of The Liquid Grid, which has a mission to transition society toward a sustainable blue economy. Now working at the intersection of ocean technology, energy, and sustainability, Hume previously helped develop a national strategy on maritime decarbonization working with the US Energy Department’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, led government R&D programs in ocean renewable energy, managed fleets of ocean robots for Liquid Robotics, and spent years at sea aboard large commercial ships as a marine engineering officer.
