Dr. David Steel is executive director of UL Standards and Engagement, leading the nonprofit’s development of safety standards and translation of knowledge gained from safety science research into practical policy initiatives and advocacy. He guides efforts to develop policy partnerships and campaigns focused on improving human safety, security and sustainability. Previously, Steel was an Advanced Leadership Fellow at Harvard University in 2017. Prior to this, he spent over two decades in senior roles at Samsung Electronics, including head of global communications and head of corporate affairs for the United States. Earlier in his career, Steel worked at McKinsey & Company and as a researcher at Argonne National Laboratory. He holds a doctorate in physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
