Dora Hughes is chief medical officer at the CMS Innovation Center at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Previously, Hughes was associate research professor of health policy and management at George Washington University, focusing on the intersection of clinical and community health, health equity, health care quality, and workforce. She also was senior policy advisor at law firm Sidley Austin, advising on regulatory and legislative matters in the life science industry, and was counselor for science and public health at the US Department of Health & Human Services, helping to implement the Affordable Care Act. Earlier, Hughes was health policy advisor to Senator Barack Obama, deputy director for the HELP Committee for Senator Edward M. Kennedy, and senior program officer at the Commonwealth Fund.
