Elizabeth Arias

Elizabeth Arias is a demographer in the mortality statistics branch at the National Center for Health Statistics, where she leads the statistical analysis and research team and directs the US Life Table Program. She has worked to expand the program’s racial, ethnic, geographic, and socioeconomic coverage to include the Hispanic population and is working to add the American Indian and Asian populations. Arias is also interested in and conducting research into the mechanisms that may explain the Hispanic mortality advantage and the distinct mortality profiles of diverse Hispanic origin sub-populations in the United States. She has been a professor at the University of Maryland and at SUNY Stony Brook. (Festival Underwriter Presenter)
