Ernest Moniz is CEO and co-chairman of the nonprofit Nuclear Threat Initiative. A nuclear physicist, he is the Cecil and Ida Green Professor of Physics and Engineering Systems emeritus and special advisor to the president at MIT. Munoz served as US secretary of energy from 2013 to January 2017, placing energy science and technology innovation at the center of the response to climate change. Prior to that, he served in the Clinton White House and Energy Department. Moniz has been a faculty member of MIT since 1973, holding roles including founding director of the MIT Energy Initiative. He received the Distinguished Public Service Medal from the US Department of Defense.
