Françoise Girard is president of the International Women’s Health Coalition and an advocate for women’s rights and sexual and reproductive health and rights. A lawyer by training, she was director of the Open Society Foundations Public Health Program from 2006 to 2011. Girard is regularly consulted by UN and intergovernmental agencies and has played a key advocacy role at UN conferences on population and development, women’s rights, and HIV/AIDS. She has written for journals including the Journal of Adolescent Health and Reproductive Health Matters; authored Global Implications of U.S. Domestic and International Policies on Sexuality; and contributed chapters to SexPolitics and Reproductive Health and Human Rights: The Way Forward.
