Gita Gopinath is economic counsellor and director of the International Monetary Fund’s Research Department, on leave from Harvard University, where she’s the John Zwaanstra Professor of International Studies and of Economics. Previously, Gopinath was an assistant economics professor at University of Chicago Booth School of Business. She has been co-director of the National Bureau of Economic Research International Finance and Macroeconomics Program, a visiting scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, and an economic advisory panel member of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. In India, she was economic advisor to the chief minister of Kerala state and a member of the Eminent Persons Advisory Group on G-20 Matters for the Ministry of Finance.
