Ignacio Saez is a neuroscientist and assistant professor in the departments of neuroscience, neurosurgery, and neurology at the Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine. His research focuses on the neural bases of human thought, decisions, and emotions, which he studies by examining electrical and chemical activity from invasive electrodes implanted for clinical treatment in neurosurgical patients. Some projects in his laboratory include the development of machine-learning models to predict economic decisions from neural activity and the development of neurostimulation paradigms for treatment of mood disorders such as depression. Saez was previously an assistant professor at the University of California, Davis, Center for Neuroscience. He completed postdoctoral training at Virginia Tech and the University of California, Berkeley. (Mount Sinai is a 2023 Festival Underwriter)
