Jared Diamond

Professor, Geography Department, UCLA; Author, Guns, Germs, and Steel

Jared Diamond is the author of five books about human societies and human evolution, a geography professor at UCLA, and biological explorer. His book Guns, Germs, and Steel won the Pulitzer Prize for Nonfiction; his other books are Collapse, Why Is Sex Fun?, The Third Chimpanzee,and The World until Yesterday. Diamond also researches and teaches the biology of New Guinea birds, digestive physiology, and conservation biology. His most widely publicized finding was his rediscovery in New Guinea of the golden-fronted bowerbird. Other honors include the US National Medal of Science and Tyler Prize for Environmental Science. Diamond is a director of World Wildlife Fund (US) and Conservation International.
