Jared Genser is managing director of Perseus Strategies public-interest law firm. An international human rights lawyer, he is also special adviser on the responsibility to protect for the Organization of American States and outside general counsel to the Neurorights Foundation. Genser was previously a partner at global law firm DLA Piper. Renowned for his work freeing political prisoners worldwide, he has served as counsel to Václav Havel, Malaysian prime minister Anwar Ibrahim, and Nobel Peace Prize laureates Liu Xiaobo, Desmond Tutu and Elie Wiesel. Genser has also been an adjunct law professor at Georgetown University Law Center and University of Pennsylvania Law School. His forthcoming book, co-edited with former U.N. high commissioner on human rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, is “Oxford Handbook on the UN Human Rights System.”
