
Jay Famiglietti is a hydrologist and senior water scientist at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory at California Institute of Technology. In July 2018, he will become director of University of Saskatchewan’s Global Institute for Water Security. Famiglietti’s research group uses satellites and develops computer models to track changing freshwater availability worldwide. He’s a regular advisor to government officials on water availability and water security issues. Previously, Famiglietti was on the faculty of University of California, Irvine and University of Texas, Austin. A fellow of the American Geophysical Union and of the Geological Society of America, he is a frequent speaker, avid writer, and is committed to science communication.
