Joanna Smith-Ramani is co-executive director of the Aspen Institute Financial Security Program, building a leadership community to investigate and solve critical financial challenges facing U.S. households. She has more than 20 years of experience across community, personal finance and financial security. Previously, Smith-Ramani was senior innovation director at Commonwealth, where she developed innovations to improve savings and financial capability, led federal grants, and developed national coalitions. She has led national and state legislative campaigns resulting in the passage of laws expanding savings innovation across the nation. An expert on financial security and inclusion often quoted in media outlets, she serves on the boards of the CASH Campaign of Maryland and A Wider Circle.
