Joanne Smith, M.D., is president and CEO of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, formerly the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC), a position she has held since 2006. A leader and driving force behind transforming the delivery of care in physical medicine and rehabilitation, she joined RIC in 1992 as a practicing physician and has served in progressively expanded roles. Smith is also a faculty member at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She was named to Modern Healthcare’s 2019 Top 25 Women Leaders list, was awarded the 2018 Women of Concern Humanitarian Award, and in 2017 was inducted into the Chicago Business Hall of Fame, among other honors.
