John Giles is the mayor of Mesa, Ariz. First elected in a special election in 2014, he was re-elected in 2016 and 2020. Under Giles’ leadership, Mesa has adopted a nondiscrimination ordinance, implemented a climate action plan and established the Mesa College Promise connecting qualified high school graduates with free community college education. He is also an adjunct professor at Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. Giles previously served on Mesa City Council from 1996 to 2000, including a term as vice mayor, and managed his Giles and Dickson law firm for over 20 years. He is the creator and host of the “It’s Always Cool in Mesa” podcast. Giles is chair of the U.S. Conference of Mayors immigration task force, co-chair of Mayors and CEOs for U.S. Housing Investment and the only elected official appointed to the national Electric Vehicle Working Group.
