John Palfrey is the president of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, making grants and impact investments in support of nonprofit organizations. Prior to this, he was head of school at Phillips Academy, Andover. Previously, Palfrey was a law professor and vice dean for library and information resources at Harvard Law School and led the Berkman Center for Internet and Society. The author of seven books, his latest is Safe Spaces, Brave Spaces: Diversity and Free Expression in Education. Palfrey is board chair of the United States Impact Investing Alliance, a board member of Fidelity Nonprofit Management Foundation, and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, where he serves on the governance council.
