John Szabo is city librarian of Los Angeles Public Library, which serves over four million people — the largest population of any public library in the country. As chief executive, he oversees the Central Library and 72 branches; major initiatives under his leadership include those related to immigrant integration and citizenship, improving financial literacy, and providing health resources and programs. With more than 25 years of leadership experience in public libraries, Szabo was previously director of four libraries, including the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System, Clearwater and Palm Harbor library systems in Florida, and the library district serving Robinson and Crawford County, Illinois. He chairs the board of trustees of OCLC, a global cooperative with more than 30,000 member libraries.
