Jonathan Eisen is a full professor at the University of California, Davis with appointments in the Genome Center, the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, and the Department of Evolution and Ecology. In addition to his research, which focuses on genomics-driven studies of communities of microbes (aka microbiomes), Eisen is an active and award-winning blogger and science communicator who advocates for more openness and more diversity in science. Elected to the American Academy of Microbiology in 2012, he has co-authored more than 300 scientific papers as well as the textbook, Evolution. Eisen was previously on the faculty of The Institute for Genomic Research and Johns Hopkins University.
