Katie Witkiewitz is director of the Center on Alcohol, Substance Use, and Addictions at the University of New Mexico. Witkiewitz is a professor, researcher, and clinical psychologist treating individuals with substance use and mental health disorders, developing and evaluating new harm reduction and mindfulness-based treatments, and creating programs to promote wellbeing and recovery. Her research topics include prevention of young adult substance use, development of behavioral treatments for addiction and comorbid mental health and physical health conditions, mechanisms of successful treatment outcomes, precision medicine approaches to addiction, and prediction of substance use following treatment for alcohol and drug use disorders. She is interested in public health approaches to reducing harms related to alcohol and other substance use and policy related to alcohol and other substance use disorder.
