Kaya Henderson
Co-Founder and CEO, Reconstruction
Kaya Henderson is co-founder and CEO of Reconstruction, a technology company delivering K-12 supplemental curriculum that centers Black people, culture and contributions. She co-hosts “Pod Save the People” and consults on leadership development and organizational effectiveness. Henderson previously led Teach For All’s Global Learning Lab for Community Impact. She was chancellor of District of Columbia Public Schools from 2010 to 2016 and deputy chancellor before that. Earlier, she was vice president of strategic partnerships at The New Teacher Project and worked for Teach for America, starting as a middle school Spanish teacher in the South Bronx and becoming a recruiter, national admissions director and ultimately executive director. A co-founder of Education Leaders of Color, her board memberships include the Aspen Institute, Georgetown University, RobinHood NYC and Teach For America.
