Nigel Kim Darroch is the British ambassador to the United States, since 2016. He served as the prime minister’s national security advisor from 2012 to 2015, acting as secretary of the UK National Security Council and leading the national security team on issues including the rise of ISIS in Iraq and Syria, Russian aggression in Ukraine, and the nuclear threat from Iran. From 2007 to 2011, Darroch served in Brussels as the UK permanent representative to the European Union, representing UK interests in areas such as enlargement, the aftermath of the financial crisis, and issues around European integration. From 2004 to 2007, he was EU advisor to the prime minister.
