Lauren Smith is chief health equity and strategy officer for the CDC Foundation. With other senior foundation leaders, Smith develops and drives strategic efforts to embed health equity across the foundation’s portfolio, including COVID-19 response activities explicitly focused on systemic racism and its impact on vulnerable populations’ resiliency amidst the pandemic. Previously, Smith was co-CEO at FSG, a social impact consulting firm, where she led the firm’s US health practice. She has also served as medical director and interim commissioner for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, medical director of the pediatric inpatient service at Boston Medical Center, in the Office of Inspector General for the US Department of Health and Human Services, and as a policy fellow for the Massachusetts Speaker of the House.
