Lucy Sante is a writer and artist. Her many books include “Nineteen Reservoirs,” “Maybe the People Would Be the Times,” and “The Other Paris.” She began gender transition in 2021, which she chronicled in her latest book, “I Heard Her Call My Name.” Previously, Sante taught at Bard College from 1999 to 2023. Prior to this, she taught at Columbia and The New School. Earlier in her career, Sante was an editorial assistant at New York Review of Books, and for over 40 years contributed literary journalism to a range of publications. Among Sante’s honors are the Whiting Writers Award, Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and Guggenheim and Cullman Center fellowships. She was appointed Officer of the Order of the Crown in Belgium.
