Luz Rivas is a member of the California State Assembly, representing the 39th district since 2018. She chairs the Committee on Natural Resources and the Select Committee on the Non-Profit Sector, and serves on committees or subcommittees on budget, resources and transportation budgets, health, local government, revenue and taxation, and emergency management. Prior to her career in public service, Rivas founded DIY Girls, a nonprofit that encouraged young girls to pursue careers in the STEM field, and worked as an electrical design engineer at Motorola. Born into an immigrant family in Los Angeles, she attended LA Unified schools before earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from MIT and a master’s of education from Harvard.
