María del Pilar Garrido
Minister of Planning and Economic Policy, Republic of Costa Rica
María del Pilar Garrido is minister of planning and economic policy for the Republic of Costa Rica. A political scientist and economist, she has experience leading economic development strategies for a green, inclusive economy and designing financial instruments for public investment projects and for value chains for climate adaptation. Previously vice minister of national planning from 2016 to 2018, in public office she has also served as chief of staff, minister of planning and policy, technical secretary of Costa Rica’s sustainable development goals, and Costa Rica coordinator of the economic cabinet. She has worked as a consultant for the United Nations system and for the Barcelona provincial council, on issues of local human development and vulnerable populations.
