Max Stier is founding president and CEO of the Partnership for Public Service, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that aims to improve the federal government. Stier has worked in all three branches of federal government, most recently as deputy general counsel for litigation at the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Previously, he clerked for a Supreme Court justice (David Souter) and Court of Appeals judge. He served on the staff of a U.S. congressman and as special litigation counsel to an assistant attorney general at the Justice Department. Stier also worked in private practice at Williams & Connolly. His current service includes the National Institute of Social Sciences Advisory Council, the National Academy of Public Administration and the Administrative Conference of the United States.
